Stories from the Storefront

1200 W. Drew, a well-known "grow house," was busted and the bust lead to 15 more such houses.  The lead behind this was former 802 Storefront Officer Brenda McCord, who got Female Officer of the Year for her work on that project. Congratulations, Officer McCord!

Over In the 4th Ward, Officer Comstock was flagged down by someone following an armed robbery suspect.  He stopped the suspect, searched the vehicle, got back all the property and as well as a box cutter used during the robbery.

The 802 storefront officers made significant arrests involving copper theft at Quitman &I-45, under the freeway.  Criminals had discovered that the City of Houston had left old, unused power lines down there, so they were stealing the copper and selling it for dope.

A cruddy apartment complex at 1414 Hyde Park had been taken over by squatters, who were using and dealing drugs there.   There have been 8 arrests on trespass charges and one on drug charges.

An undercover officer was in a car with a dope head, making a sale.  The doper was trying to get him to smoke the crack in order to prove he wasn't a cop.  The officer stalled until reinforcements arrived. There was a major struggle and the dope swallowed the dope!  Then he got tazed, tackled, caught, and jailed.

Many scrap metal places, including C&D Scrap, in Houston are pulling scams in which they use illegal workers to buy stolen scrap metal from thieves. This keeps the purchase from being tied to the boss or owner. When they get caught, or close to being caught, the company simply fires the illegal and hires a new one the next day.

A lady reported at the Storefront that she had been pumping gas at the Chevron at S. Shepherd and Westheimer.  Her car automatically unlocked the doors when she got out, and while she was pumping gas a thug opened the passenger side door and made off with her purse.
